2025 New Moons. When are the new moons next year?

The New Moon 2025 Calendar is an overview of the new moons in 2025, seasonal black moon, and solar eclipses that will occur during the year. All dates are in the United States Eastern Time Zone, adjusted for Daylight Savings Time for part of the year.

A new moon is the first lunar phase that happens about once a month or, 29.53 days on average. The moon itself is not visible though you may be able to “see” it because it blocks the visibility of the stars behind it.

Will there be a black moon in 2025?

Yes, there will be a seasonal black moon in 2025 on Saturday, August 23 at 2:06 a.m. as Summer will have an extra new moon.

What is a black moon?

There are four potential definitions for a black moon, though all unofficial. As a result, it’s not rare to have a black moon in a year. It’s not possible to have all four in one year.

  • A month with two new moons
  • A month without a full moon, only a new moon
  • A month without a new moon, only a full moon
  • A season with four new moons, making the third a seasonal black moon

Because February has either 28 or 29 days, it’s the only calendar month that may not have both a new moon and a full moon in a given year.

What are the names of 2025 new moons?

The names of the 2025 new moons are as follows:

  • January: New Snow Moon
  • February: New Worm Moon
  • March: New Pink Moon
  • April: New Flower Moon
  • May: New Strawberry Moon
  • June: New Buck Moon
  • July: New Sturgeon Moon
  • August: New Corn Moon
  • September: New Harvest Moon
  • October: New Beaver Moon
  • November: New Cold Moon
  • December: New Wolf Moon

For all of 2025, the new moon for the full moon cycle will occur in the month prior, leaving a mismatch in the names.

The September new moon is called the New Harvest Moon because the October Full Moon will be closer to the Autumn Equinox than the September Full Moon.

Equinoxes and Solstices

The 2025 dates for the equinoxes and solstices are:

  • Spring Equinox (Vernal): Thursday, March 20 at 5:02 a.m.
  • Summer Solstice: Friday, June 20 at 10:42 p.m.
