A full moon occurs about once a month, or 29.53 days on average, when the Earth is between the Sun and Moon, so the moon appears completely illuminated.

Full Moon Calendar 2026

In 2026, there will be 13 full moons during the year, with a blue moon in May. There will also be a Total Lunar Eclipse in March and a Partial Lunar Eclipse in August.

The Harvest Moon will be on September 26 as the closest full moon to the Autumnal Equinox.

There will be three full supermoons: January, November, and December. The year is a little unusual as it will both start and end with supermoons.

January 3, 2026 (Super Wolf Moon)

The first full moon in 2026 will be on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 5:03 AM. The January Full Moon is called the Super Wolf Moon. What are the phases of the moon?

The four primary lunar phases are the new moon, the first quarter, the full moon, and the last quarter.

A new moon is the first lunar phase, which occurs on average about once a month or 29.53 days. The moon itself is not visible, though you may be able to “see” it because it blocks the visibility of the stars behind it.

A full moon occurs when the Earth is directly between the Sun and the Moon, allowing the moon to appear illuminated entirely. It happens about once a month, or 29.53 days on average.

The first quarter moon occurs between the new moon and the full moon, and the last quarter moon occurs after the full moon and before the next new moon.
