1962 Full Moon — In 1962 there were 12 full moons. The year had a seasonal blue moon, Winter missing a full moon, and three lunar eclipses.

A full moon occurs when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, so the moon looks completely illuminated. It happens about once a month or 29.53 days on average, also called a  synodic month.

The four primary lunar phases are the new moon, the first quarter, the full moon, and the last quarter. The lunar month lasts approximately a month or 29.53 days on average.

Full Moons in 1962

In 1962, there were 12 full moons, with the first on Saturday, January 20. May was a seasonal blue moon as an extra Spring Full Moon. March and August each had a Partial Lunar Eclipse. February, July, and August each had a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse.

Because the December 1961 Full Moon was two hours before the Winter Solstice, Winter 1961-1962 only had two full moons. There was an extra full moon in Spring as a Seasonal Blue Moon.
